Soccer:
Hall6 vs Hall8
3 : 1
Still smarting over the dubious refereeing in the previous game against Hall 11, we started the game raring to go. This time we were determined to score more than one goal to give ourselves a comfortable cushion, lest we meet another referee like the one we had in the previous game.
Hall 8 kicked off the game. It was clear after a few exchanges that this wasn't a very strong team (Hall 8). The goalkeeper had been picked out before the game as their main weakness, and we were encouraged to take as many shots at him as possible. His poor handling was evident from how he spilled a couple of innocuous punts into their penalty area, fortunately for them, he always managed to scramble the ball safely back into his arms.
The first 15 minutes was generally evenly matched, both sides having their chances. We could have taken a lead within the first 5 minutes when a cross from the left(forgot who cross one) fell to juffri, but his shot went "narrowly wide" (im trying to be nice here).
After that it was almost all Hall 6 with our centre backs weihao and melvin (quek) dealing with all balls pumped into the area.
Then around the 35th min (i agar agar, dont know exact), we got a corner. Juffri whipped it , and it evaded everybody, eventually nestling at the far post. sibei tyco, but its still a goal, so juffri, ill give it to you la. nice one
Half time
Second half started pretty much the same way it ended in the first, consistent pressure from us as Hall 8 began to crumble. We got a free kick outside somewhere outside the penalty area, quite far la but i dont know how to describe to you all how far it is. But mr lam fuhang stepped up to take it, and he delivered a meek shot which was going straight for the keeper's arms, but deflected off someone and bounced into the net. Tyco goal. 2-0.
ok la kidding. Fuhang SMASHED a FEROCIOUS shot towards the far end of the Hall 8 goal, and it was UNSTOPPABLE, leaving the keeper flailing and stranded. Goal.2-0. But i still think its tyco.
Third goal, again fuhang's goal. he got a pass from nelson (i cant remember if it was deflected or not). But anyway it reached fuhang and he volleyed it sweetly from somewhere outside the penalty area again. ok i shall copy and paste the description from the previous goal. Fuhang SMASHED a FEROCIOUS shot towards the far end of the Hall 8 goal, and it was UNSTOPPABLE, leaving the keeper flailing and stranded. Goal. 3-0. I think this one is tyco too.
credit to hall 8, they didnt give up after this. to their good fortune, we were handed another dosage of dubious refereeing decisions as a penalty was awarded against us again. It was a supposed handball from Nelson, who was in the wall blocking a free kick from the left side of the pen area. It was quite an obvious ball to hand, and he was just blocking his face, so i dont know whats the ref's prob. But hall 8 converted it anyway, although wai leong almost saved it.
Hall 8 played with a renewed sense of urgency after this and started to press more, while we scuffed a couple on the counter.
Overall, good game, but definitely much more to be improved.
The soccer team are now through to the Quarter Finals!
ps. i am writing from memory so might miss out some parts
