After the unfortunate defeat in the semi-final game last year, the Hall 6 boggle team was upset but unequivocally determined to get our hands back on the gold medal in the following year. Yet, the journey this year wasn't all smooth-sailing, especially with a fairly young team and the fact that many other halls were rising to the occasion. It was going to be a tough fight; and it was. (Notice the huge similarity of this paragraph to the Scrabble one, kudos to Wai Ji for typing the original)
No match was easy, nor were they taken for granted. We respected our opponents and gave our very best, ensuring that we do not underestimate them.
Pushing through the group stages, we cleared the first 6 matches unbeaten. It has boiled down to the final game (of the group stages) against Hall 3. They were, without a doubt, strong opponents, but we were not weak either. This was the most crucial match for the boggle team, as well as for Hall 6. With a victory over them, Hall 3 would have to face Hall 1 in the semi-finals. If both Hall 1 and 6 were to proceed to the finals, it would secure our runner-up position in Recreation over Hall 3. With a 3-2 victory, we secured the top spot in our group. Our juniors were facing off against their strongest players, but they did well in keeping the gaps close despite a loss. Good job guys!
Proceeding to the semi-finals, all the players were drained from the long day. However, with our horde of supporters spurring us on, we knew we couldn’t disappoint. History would not repeat itself as we played Hall 15 once again in the semi-finals. This year, we clinched a 3-2 victory over them, securing our position as second in Recreation.
With the final match being held at Hall 6 MPH, Sixians streamed down to watch the nerve wrecking match. A tough battle was ahead of us, and the tense atmosphere drained the already exhausted players. We put up a tough fight against Hall 1, keeping the games close despite losing. The players from Hall 1 mainly had 1 comment about us: we were the toughest match they have ever had. Losing only by a small margin, we hold our heads high for fighting a tough battle and doing our best. Good job bogglers!
Special thanks to all the supporters who came down, the super seniors, and everyone whom shall be named by themselves because I can’t name them all. I know recreation isn’t the most exciting of games to come down and support, but the presence we gave showed our strong Hall 6 spirit.
To our juniors: boggle may not be the easiest of games, but as a team, you can do it. Spurring on the competitive spirit as well as the motivation to work hard for this game is not easy, but we are very proud that you did it. You can stand proudly because this is an achievement of your hard work. Next year will be the time to step it up and push Hall 6 to greater heights: double word champs.
Hall 6, OVIA!
