Interview with Othello Captain, Yi Wei:

1. Has the team's performance exceeded your expectations, having entered the finals?
YW: The team has certainly outperformed this year, having facing the challenge of two of our best players graduating last year. We also managed to beat Hall 9 in the semi-finals, which is one of our rival halls we haven't beaten in the past few ihrg.
2. What are the challenges you foresee for the team next year and what plans do you have for them?YW: Team renewal is always a challenge as searching or teaching a person othello up to a certain level is not always easy. But with hard work and esposure, I say it can be done! Another challenge we are facing is that rival halls seems to be trying to improve their skills in Othello. So Hall 6 cannot stay stagnant and expect to get into finals again. We must continue to improve ourselves, hone our skills and be more prepared. One way is to participate in Othello Singapore Open games to gain more exposure

3. Anything to comment about this year' s IHG experience?YW: I feel that this year we have been caught surprised by our rival halls' standard. They are certainly getting more competitive. That's why I believe that we need to train more, train smart. Old formulas that have help us earned thropies may not work anymore as other halls get ahead of us. We must constanly renew our teaching/learning/training methods to keep ourself competitive. Most importantly, we must hunger for those thropies.

4. Any advice to give to the freshies?
YW: Freshies, this is IHG. As seniors graduate, it will be up to you to carry on the baton. After this IHG, there will always be the next IHG, and the one after next. So even after this year's IHG has ended, let's continue to train together and be better prepared for the next. As ex-president Xiao Fang likes to say, whatever you give to Hall 6, Hall 6 will give back to you. cheers!
