Volleyball M write-up.
Hall 6 vs Hall 4 (30/12/2011)
[2:0]
Having lost our first match against Hall 8, the match against Hall 4 today was crucial to keep our qualifying hopes alive. Our male volleyball team did not disappoint, winning 2 straight sets and cruising to a comfortable victory over Hall 4.
The first set started out with quite an even game, with Hall 4 matching us point for point. We looked the better team, but somehow we couldn’t seem to find the momentum to extend our lead over Hall 4, probably because we were still settling down in the game. There were quite a few last minute diving saves, resulting from miscommunication between our own players. With the score tied at 8-8, Hall 4 called a time-out. We took this opportunity to compose ourselves and steady our nerves. Seeing that Hall 4 was having a hard time dealing with our drop balls, we came up with a strategy to try dropping balls in unpredictable directions. It worked perfectly, confusing their defence and opening up a comfortable lead over Hall 4. From then on, with our morale boosted, we played in emphatic fashion, increasing our lead steadily, and eventually took the first set.
The second set proceeded in the same smooth fashion as the first set, with our players taking the lead early on in the game, never giving a chance for Hall 4 to catch up. We managed a couple of spectacular spikes in attack, while in defence we blocked most of Hall 4’s attempts to hit the ball over. By this time, we could tell that Hall 4’s morale was crushed – they were losing points but they just couldn’t find a way to overcome our solid defence. We went ahead to stamp our authority on the match, winning the second set and securing a much needed victory over Hall 4.
