IHG - Softball(F) (21/Jan/11)
Pictures can be view at : Click Here
Supporters cheered as our girls walked into the pitch as the quarter finals for softball(F) against Hall15 was about to begin.Pressure and intensity were in the air as word spread that Hall15 was more than a worthy opponent, as the team consisted of IVP players.
The game started with us fielding, and Hall15 lived up to their expectations, displaying a series of fine batting. We went 3-0 down before being able to end the first inning. The evening did not get any better as nerves got to our batters and Hall15 held us to 0 points.
Our girls were starting to warm up to the intensity and a series of good throws closed the inning at 5-0. However, their fielding remained top notch and got to the better of our batters, and held us down to 0 points yet again.
More action was to follow as our fielders took to the pitch. It was their IVPs' turn to bat and there was immense anticipation. If Hall6 were to save the game, it had to start now. After taking aim, Ahpok
sent a good ball towards the batter that was destined for the strike. The IVP had to bat, and expectedly gave the ball a tough hit right towards Ahpok. As though defying the laws of physics, she caught the
ball in 0.345seconds of extreme reflex. Im afraid the movement was so quick that the naked eye wasn't capable of catching the action. It was a sign of resilience that Hall6 wasn't done quite yet! The inning ended with Hall15 getting 0 points and Hall6 were taking the game to them.
After a series of decent batting, Xin Ying and Ching were unfortunately caught out but we still had 2 bases loaded, with Chin Thin at 2nd base and Shaz at first base. Sera took to the batters' box and prepared for what could be a very important swing. The ball came and with a forceful and well-timed hit, she got the
ball flying out of the diamond! Our players ran to the next base, and at the 3rd base, Chin Thin stole a look at the Hall15 fielders, and with a stroke of brilliance in her mind, she made a dash towards home! But alas it was not to be, as Hall15 were surprisingly alert enough to spot her run. Resembling a bullet, the ball flew towards
home and the catcher got the ball with a great leap just as Chin Thin thought she earned a point. The umpire called OUT with some controversy, as some were convinced that she was safe before the catcher actually finished her big great leap and planted her foot on the base. Oh wells, this turned out to be the biggest turning point of the night.
As the game went on, our softballers carried on in confidence with great faith that there can be miracles~~ when you believe~~.. Commendable displays by Shin and Kirana whom both caught potflies
winning deafening applause from the insane Hall6 supporters.
However, not every story ends like a fairytale, and Hall6 eventually lost with the score at 5-0. It was a good fight as it was arguably the best performance so far by the softball team although we were defeated. Im sure the Hall15 softballers nearly wet their pants. It could be said that we were the toughest opponent they have met so far.
